# Trades and industries.

> I work with trades and service businesses across Canada and the US. Here is what each trade needs online, and where to read more about yours.

Every trade gets found differently. A plumber gets picked off a map at midnight, and a crane company gets picked by a project manager reading a fleet list.

## Most competitive industries.

### [Roofers](https://b-sideprojects.com/industries/roofing/)

Roofing work comes in waves after storms, and nobody knows when the next one lands. Homeowners also want a roofer who will still answer the phone in ten years, when the warranty matters.

### [Plumbers](https://b-sideprojects.com/industries/plumbing/)

Most plumbing work starts with somebody standing in water with a phone in their hand. They pick a shop on the map that says it's open and call, so your Google Business Profile does more of the selling than your website does.

### [HVAC shops](https://b-sideprojects.com/industries/hvac/)

You have two kinds of customer: one with a dead furnace who calls the first shop that answers, and one pricing a new furnace or a heat pump who reads for weeks first. The second one is where the money is.

## More industries.

### Crane and rigging

Your customers are contractors and project managers who need a lift on a set date. They want your fleet list with capacities and your safety record. Don't bury your capabilities in a PDF nobody can find.

### Truck equipment

Fleet managers and owner-operators buy service bodies and truck cranes off spec sheets and lead times. Your website should show finished builds with the chassis they went on, and a quote form that asks the questions your estimator would.

### Material handling

Plant and warehouse managers look for service and parts by brand, and they want to book the yearly inspection without playing phone tag. The website has to make the brand list and the booking easy to find.

### Metal fabricators

Most fabrication work comes through general contractors and referrals, so your website gets checked more than it gets found. When a contractor looks you up, they want project photos and your welding certification (CWB in Canada, AWS in the US).

### Machine shops

Your customers are engineers and buyers at other companies. They search by process and by material, and they want your equipment list and a way to send a drawing for a quote.

### Electricians

A homeowner is looking for a panel upgrade or a car charger install, and a builder is looking for a licensed contractor who shows up on the day. Most electrician websites talk to neither, so the site has to be built for whichever one pays your bills.

### Landscapers

The steady money is in maintenance contracts, and in Canada a lot of landscapers run snow removal through the winter too. The website has to sell the contract and the second season.

### Auto repair

People choose a mechanic by reviews and by distance, in that order. Your Google Business Profile and the habit of answering every review do more for an auto repair shop than any website.
